Hope you are enjoying the Spring season and all it brings :).
The children are blossoming into learning! It is such a joy to see them make new discoveries as they embark on this learning path. Exposure is so important. Whatever you intend for them to learn they will. Whatever you introduce or is introduced to them they will run with. Children are very impressionable at this age. Here are some of the things we are working on, and how you can help them at home.
Shapes and Colors - While dressing your child in the mornings, discuss what colors they have on. You can say things like "this is red, red like an apple, red like a strawberry. This is green. Green like the grass. Green like a tree." etc.
For those children who know colors, you can now ask what letter does red start with or have them start spelling the color and make a song of it. In class we do: "R-E-D red" as well as songs/chants for other colors.
For identifying shapes, you can ask your child, "What shape is the door, the TV, the clock or window? What shape is the stop sign, stop light etc".
Letters and Sounds- You can start by making sure your child knows the letter their names begin with and the sound it makes. Identifying letters they may see around them and the sound it makes can be a nice game to play as a family. For ex.," I spy with my little eye, something that begins with B", then your child would have to find something in the house that begins with B .
YouTube has great videos for abc's and sounds also as well as FisherPrice.com
Word Play - We are recognizing sight words and sounding out "at family words" I have not moved on too much because I want them to master and feel comfortale with the sounds of letters and words we've done so far. But we will be moving forward soon.
Numbers- The same applies as above. Have your child identify numbers all around. How old they are and the number. Numbers on the clock. On the remote, TV, on the house or mailbox Etc.
We have discussed, patterns, position words (up , over, behind, between etc.) .We are counting to 100 everyday. We have been discussing the clock and we will start adding numbers soon.
Science- We are discussing the parts of the plant, discussing the water cycle and looking at insects.
Social Studies - We are working on spelling our last names, our addresses, bout our community and jobs. We are also looking at the USA map and World Map.
